Shopify ERP integration

Shopify ERP integration for orders, stock, refunds and payouts.

Shopify and your ERP

Shopify is where many Australian retailers take orders, but stock, purchasing, fulfilment and accounting often need an ERP behind it. SyncBricks connects Shopify and Shopify Plus to ERPNext, Business Central, NetSuite and other systems, so orders, stock and payouts stay consistent across channels.

Shopify is a widely used ecommerce platform for Australian direct-to-consumer and wholesale sellers, with Shopify Plus for larger merchants. Its APIs and webhooks cover products, variants, inventory by location, orders, fulfilments, refunds, customers and payouts, which gives an ERP integration everything it needs to keep both systems aligned.

Why integrate Shopify with your ERP

As order volume grows, re-keying Shopify orders into an ERP or adjusting stock by hand stops being workable. Oversells, missed refunds and payouts that do not match the bank are the usual symptoms. A well designed integration fixes ownership first: the ERP usually owns products, prices and stock, and Shopify owns the checkout. The sync then follows from that.

The design work sits inside our process mapping and ERP integration services: agree which system owns each record first, then build.

Integration patterns we build

Shopify orders to ERP sales orders

Paid orders arrive in the ERP as sales orders with customer, lines, discounts, shipping and tax mapped, ready for picking, fulfilment and invoicing.

ERP stock to Shopify

Available stock by warehouse is pushed from the ERP to Shopify locations on a schedule or on change, with safety stock held back to reduce oversells.

Fulfilment and tracking back to Shopify

When the warehouse or 3PL ships an order, the fulfilment and tracking number are written back to Shopify so the customer is notified.

Refunds, returns and payouts

Refunds and returns update stock and create credit notes in the ERP. Shopify Payments payouts are reconciled against the orders, refunds and fees they contain.

How data moves

Events that start a sync

  • Order paid in Shopify
  • Order edited or cancelled
  • Refund issued
  • Stock changed in the ERP
  • Shipment confirmed by the warehouse or 3PL
  • Payout received from Shopify Payments

Records created or updated

  • Create sales orders and invoices in the ERP
  • Update inventory levels by Shopify location
  • Create or update products, variants and prices
  • Create fulfilments with tracking numbers
  • Post credit notes and payout reconciliations
  • Log failed orders for review

Who asks us for Shopify integration

  • Retailers selling online and in store from shared stock.
  • Wholesalers running a Shopify B2B or trade store beside direct sales.
  • Brands using a 3PL that needs orders from Shopify and stock from the ERP.
  • Businesses moving from a Shopify plus inventory app setup to a full ERP.

Access, credentials and audit trail

Shopify connections use app access tokens with only the scopes required, and incoming webhooks are verified by signature before they are processed. Credentials are kept in a secrets store. Every order, stock update and refund the integration handles is logged with its Shopify and ERP references for audit and troubleshooting.

FAQ

Shopify integration questions

Should Shopify or the ERP own products and stock?

In most cases the ERP owns products, costs, prices and stock, because it also handles purchasing, warehouses and other channels. Shopify keeps marketing content such as descriptions and images. We confirm this per field during process mapping, because splitting ownership clearly avoids the two systems overwriting each other.

Do you use a connector or build a custom integration?

Either, depending on the ERP and your requirements. NetSuite and Business Central have established connectors, ERPNext has community and commercial options, and some needs are better met by a custom integration or an integration tool such as n8n. We compare fit, ongoing cost and supportability, and choose the simplest option that handles your edge cases.

Shopify Plus or standard Shopify?

Both can be integrated. Shopify Plus adds features such as B2B catalogues, more automation and higher API limits, which matter for larger order volumes. We design around the plan you are on and flag anything that would need a change.
